How We Met
Chukwudi is originally Nigerian but was born and raised in Cameroon, and that’s where our paths first crossed. We both attended BHS Buea — a boarding school nestled at the foot of Mount Cameroon. Back then, Chukwudi was famously known as "Senior Coolio" in Upper Sixth, while Brenda was just a shy Form 4 student quietly navigating her way through school life. Who would have thought those two paths would one day lead here?
It Goes Down In The DM
After boarding school, we stayed connected through social media. Over the years, Chukwudi never missed a beat — from birthdays to life milestones, his DMs showed up like clockwork on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. He was always checking in, dropping subtle (and not-so-subtle) hints of interest. Though we chatted here and there, nothing really sparked — yet.
Our First Time Seeing Each Other After A Long While
In 2019, we had a quick lunch date at TK & Laura’s home [Brenda’s sister & Brother In-Law’s house in Houston]. Chukwudi had heard Brenda was in town and made sure to show up — classic Coolio. We reconnected again in 2021, but it remained light and friendly. Then came 2022. About a week after Brenda wrapped up an amazing Hallelujah Challenge, we had a four-hour phone call that changed everything. We weren’t looking for anything serious, but suddenly, everything felt different. It felt like home. It felt easy.
Long Distance Blues
Brenda had always said she would never do long distance. But as God so often reminds us — His ways are not our ways. Between Toronto and Dallas, we clocked in miles and made it work. It wasn’t easy, but love has a way of making the hard things worth it.
He Asked Daddy Bicharr
Before Chukwudi officially proposed, he had to talk to two very important people: God and Brenda’s dad. Brenda needed peace from above before saying yes here on earth. After months of waiting and prayer, the green light came. On December 1st, 2023, Chukwudi called Daddy Bicharr to ask for his blessing to ask Brenda to marry him.
First Introduction & Virtual Visit
Following the call with Brenda’s dad and some meaningful family conversations, Chukwudi sent a few loved ones to meet her parents for a small but heartfelt family introduction — a beautiful moment that marked the beginning of two families slowly coming together.
Engagement
We got engaged that same weekend in Dallas, Texas [The same weekend as the introduction which happened in Douala, Cameroon]. It was an unforgettable moment filled with joy, laughter, and an overwhelming sense of “This is it.”
Family Meeting in Houston Face to Face & For the First Time
Soon after, our families met in person for the first time in Houston, Texas — coming together all the way from Cameroon and Nigeria. It was a celebration of culture, connection, and unity.
Now We Need You
Now all that’s missing is YOU — the rest of our beautiful family and friends — to come and join us as we seal it all the traditional African way. We can’t wait to celebrate this blessing with you!.
